My name is Abi, and I established my own business, Grooms By Abi, in 2020. I have always been passionate about advancing my skills and gaining knowledge through reading and research, especially within canine behaviour and psychology. This has greatly benefited my grooming career by allowing me to adapt my approach to each individual dog, build trust, and prioritise their emotional wellbeing alongside their physical care.

In January 2023, I began offering ultrasonic teeth cleaning, which sparked a deeper interest in canine oral anatomy and helped me dig deeper to understand why periodontal disease is so common in dogs at such a young age. This led me to pursue a Level 3 Diploma in Canine Nutrition, as I believe nutrition plays a vital role in maintaining overall health and wellbeing, including dental health.

With over a decade of experience working with dogs, I've developed a strong understanding of canine behaviour and communication, allowing me to work calmly and effectively with dogs, adapting my handling to meet their individual needs and ensuring a gentle, positive experience.

Alongside my client-facing work, I now provide training for groomers and pet professionals through The Modern Dog Academy. This was created after identifying a gap in welfare-focused, science-based education around canine dental care.

During my free time, I enjoy travelling around the UK (and more recently Europe) in our campervan with my husband and our animals, Louie, the lively Border Collie; Ruby, a crazy Toy Poodle who loves getting dirty in the mud, and Carlos the cat, who likes to be involved wherever possible.
